Cloud Zombie's Land Of Dystopia and Post-Apocalypse - 2019 at a Glance

This little segment is not really for reviews but instead it has me talking about some of my favourite dystopia/post-apocalyptic fiction (Films, Tv, Books and Games). They are not always necessarily good or bad, some of them are bloody atrocious but sometimes that can make it more fun. You get to choose if you want to give them a try if you haven’t already seen them.

New me, new dystopia

Well it seems we have just about made it through 2018 to 2019 in one piece; it’s still looking a little sketchy though. It’s not what I would call Utopian; of the two, it certainly is verging on the beginnings of a dystopian novel. The Doomsday clock hasn’t moved since the last time, it’s still at 2 minutes to midnight and is sitting there looming and always carrying the vague threat of a lot of doom for us all.

It’s been a long year and I have Watched/read/played a few from last year’s list, naming a few:

  • Ready Player One
  • Mortal Engines
  • We Happy Few

I have recently acquired: Pacific Rim: Uprising, Snowpiercer (2013 Film), The First Purge, The Darkest Minds

2018’s Run Down

So with all that in mind let’s jump in and look at the year ahead to see what new dystopia/post-apocalyptic goodies are coming our way in 2019.

These are a few of my choices I’d like to see:

Films

Chaos Walking (March 19)
Zombieland 2 (October 19)
The Last Boy (2019)

Obviously if you know me you know I am going to be the most excited for Zombieland 2. I was a big fan of the last film and honestly hope to see more of the same. Chaos Walking looks like an interesting story featuring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, I am excited to see them act opposite each other to be honest.

TV Series

Snowpiercer

I had this on last year’s list but it seems that it was pushed back at some point or I had just gotten the release date wrong. Either way I can’t wait to see it.

Books/Audiobooks

  • Wolf Country by Tunde Farrand
  • The Wall by John Lanchester
  • Vigilance by Robert Jackson Bennett
  • The Test by Sylvain Neuvel
  • The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale #2) by Magaret Atwood

The Handmaid’s Tale hit hard as a TV series and it excited people so much that Margaret Atwood has decided to write a second book attached to the first one. Let’s hope it’s as gripping and hard hitting as the last one.

Graphic Novels/Comic Books

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

Games PC/Console

  • Days Gone (26 April 2019)
  • Metro Exodus (22 February 2019)
  • Rage 2 (June 2019)

Days Gone has been a very anticipated game in my household, it almost has a The Last of Us feel to it but is different enough to hold its own. Hopefully it will prove all the hype is real when it releases.

Metro Exodus is also another exciting game releasing very soon. Blake and I have a big love for the Metro games, so when we heard that we were getting to play a new addition it probably meant we would have to have another play through of the two prior games. I also have two Metro books to read I received from Rob for my birthday, I really should read them now.

We have a fair few dystopia and post apocalypse themed forms of entertainment coming out in 2019, this is mostly just a handful of things that have interested me and of course there are others out there still waiting to be announced. Watch this space for further ‘Cloud Zombie's Land Of Dystopia and Post-Apocalypse’ in the future. As always thank you for reading and a happy new year to you all.
